Laundry is the chore that never ends! When you’re working, chasing your kids, taking care of a pet and juggling whatever it is in our busy lives it’s all too easy to let those clothes pile up into a big overwhelming mess. And even if you’re pretty on top of it, getting it all done can be time-consuming and frustrating.
So of course we are always looking for awesome tricks for easier laundry! Here are 10 smart tips to help you get your laundry life under control!
1. Sock Patrol
Sick of losing single socks? Keep a mesh bag close to your laundry basket and stick all your socks in it. Clean your socks IN the mesh bag, and never lose one again!
2. Dryer Erase Marker
Constantly putting clothes that need to be air dried in the dryer? Use a dry erase marker to make notes to yourself, then wash them away when the load is done.
3. Prevent color fading
To prevent color fading, toss your clothes in the wash with a teaspoon of salt. Keep your brights brighter AND prevent color bleeding on the first wash
4. Drying Sneakers
To prevent the dreaded sneaker bang, wedge knotted laces in the dryer door or use sneaker dryer bags.
5. Towel Refresher
If your towels have already seen better days, use vinegar and baking soda instead of detergent.
Boost absorbency and get rid of the towel stank for good. All it takes is two washes in hot water; the first with vinegar, and the second with baking soda.
6. Hang Stinky Clothes
If something REALLY stinks before it goes in the washer, hang it and let is air out rather than throw it on the laundry pile; the airing out will discourage mildew and lessen the smell.
7. Throw in the Towel
Need to get this load done quickly? Throw a dry, fluffy towel in with your clothes being dried to speed up the cycle; the towel will absorb some of the moisture and cut your load time in half.
8. Makeshift Dryer Sheet
No dryer sheet to speak of? Use a crumpled up piece of aluminum foil! Best of all, you can use this ball of foil for at least a few cycles! But be sure to NOT use dryer sheets for towels for more absorbent towels
9. Avoid Clothing Wrinkles
If you have a drying rack, you know that hanging clothes over the bars can sometimes leave crease marks. To avoid this, cut a length of pool noodle to drape your clothes over and say goodbye to wrinkled clothes forever.
10. Get That Professional Fold
Now, this one isn’t an essential hack, but it’s cool to be able to fold your clothes the neat way they do at the store! All you have to do is take a sheet of cardboard and cut slits the width of your shirts and up about half the length. Then you just use the cardboard to do the folding!
